GABA tea (other names: Gabaron, Jia Ye Wu Long cha, Jing Bai Long cha) is tea that has undergone a special oxygen-free fermentation process, and as a result has accumulated GABA (Gamma Aminobutyric Acid) in tea leaves, the chief inhibitory neurotransmitter in our central nervous system. GABA oolong is said to calm the nerves and potentially has a whole host of medical benefits. This particular GABA tea is much closer to Hongshui oolong than other GABA we've tried, meaning it is allowed to oxidize for longer. The taste is appley-sweet with a prominent cinnamon note, and there's a hint of a lactobacillus note. The broth is rich and brews to a deep orange-red color. |
