Tea Description | Yunnan Ya Bao Silver Buds Tea, a rather unusual pure bud tea, is made from tea buds of wild arbor tea trees growing in the Jingmai region of the Yunnan Province where the altitude is about 1,500 meters. Ya Bao is only harvested once a year at early March when the trees just start producing the smallest of new growth, so it has limited quantity. Then the fresh silver buds are carefully sun-dried to remove any moisture, leading to a unique and genre-challenging flavor between White tea and pu-erh tea, and no further processing is carried out.
The final tea is full of sweetness and intriguing spice. Most people are first attracted by the special shape and unique flowery aroma of Ya Bao Tea. The dried leaves of this Ya Bao Tea have an unusual appearance of whole small buds. When brewed, this tea produces a light and bright liquor with a very faint colour. The taste, however, is surprisingly complex, very sweet and delicate with a hint of natural vanilla-like flower flavor. This is a satisfying cup of tea that has a mouth watering effect and a long lasting slightly fruity and sweet finish.
In China, yabao is particularly prized as it ages. A young yabao will be light and crisp, while older yabao can become deep, rich and spiced in flavor. While yabao matures with age, it does not develop earthy flavors like traditional pu-erh tea.
